Lent
We started Lent with a very prayerful Mass and distribution of Ashes on Wednesday. Thank you to all the children who behaved so well. It would be good to try to do something extra again this year with our children. So could you look at the Lentern Journey Calendar with them and join in some of the activities suggested?
St Joseph’s Penny Boxes
Each pupil will be given a St Joseph’s Penny Box to take home as soon as they arrive to school, probably after half term now. These will be collected in to help homeless children in the Salford Diocese. Even though they are called St Joseph’s Penny boxes and have been so for 30 years! Inflation means a penny does not go very far. Please do consider putting silver coins in to help. We will be raising money in school for this worthwhile cause starting with Friday’s Non Uniform Day for 50p.
Cafod Assembly
Class 4 will present an assembly on 22nd February in aid of Cafod at 9.15am. You are welcome to attend.
World Book Day
Thursday 6th March 2008 will be World Book Day, a celebration of books and reading. To mark the occasion each child will receive a £1 World Book Token. These will be sent home on Friday 29th February so look out for the exciting range of books you can put your voucher towards. There are also six titles which can be bought for just £1 so that you can use the token for these while stocks last. So get reading!
Tesco Sports Vouchers
Thank you to those who collected Tesco Sport vouchers in 2007. We were able to purchase; some nobbly wobblies, a target swing set, throw down spots, playground balls, a stirrup pump and a foam javelin. All these items are part of the drive to keep our children at St Joseph’s active in a fun way and encourage Healthy life styles. As we achieved the Active Mark Award last term this and other incentives are obviously working, thanks to you.
School Nurse
On Tuesday 19th February, Monica, our school nurse will be here in the Hall to welcome you at the door. If you wish to speak to her you can come along and arrange a meeting or just chat to her informally on the day. We call thas a ‘Drop In’ session and they are arranged regularly every term. On that day the nurse will continue in the morning to do screening for reception children.
Parents Consultation Group Meeting
There will be a meeting for this group on Wednesday 20th February at 7.00 pm in the staff room.
New Main Entrance
May I remind you that the new main entrance to school is through the large playground for ALL children, parents and visitors. Children should come into school through the hall if in KS2 and through their classroom doors if they are in KS1 and Foundation Stage.
