Ash Wednesday
Lent is very early this year and begins next week on Wednesday 6th February. We will be starting with Holy Mass in church at 9.15am when ashes will be distributed to the children. You are all very welcome to come along and join us.
Big School’s Garden Birdwatch '08
The nuts and bird feeders have been put out for the birds and hides were made today in Wildthings club to help pupils watch and record all the different types of birds visiting our school grounds. We hope to take some photos of the birds to put on our website.
Bulb Planting Day
Do you remember St Joseph’s school taking part in a sponsored bulb planting event and competition on Friday 20th October 2006? All pupils took part and planted a bulb. You need to take a look at the ground area around the school that you planted because the shoots are just beginning to appear!
PTA Bags2school
Thank you to all those who donated for the Bags2school collection which raised a grand total of £150. This is a tremendous effort from the PTA and yourselves and the children really do appreciate it.
The next PTA Meeting is at 6.15 in the Rainbow Room on Wednesday 27th February.
Valentines Lunch and Disco
On Friday 8th February we are having a Special Lunch for Valentines Day. The Hall will be decorated for the event by the children and the PTA are helping with a Valentines Disco in the afternoon for the children. The Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 will be in the hall for the first half of the afternoon, followed by Key Stage 2 for the second half. Children may wear their own clothes for the event for 50p. This money will be donated to St Joseph’s Penny.
Tuesday 5th February
A ‘Homeless Person’ will visit our school for a special assembly at 11.00 -11.20 for KS2 who will gain a little insight into this unfortunate situation. In the afternoon class 3 will have a cricket coaching session from 2.30pm. and class 4 will be visiting the High School to watch a production.
Attendance Week (4th – 8th Feb)
Next week is Attendance Week when we will be looking at how important it is for every child to be at school, on time and ready to learn. Just by ‘being there at every lesson’ figures have shown how children’s attainment in school has improved. The children will be collecting stickers in class, doing puzzles and entering competitions to win prizes. So, don’t forget “be there” and see what you can win!
Sue Read, our Education Welfare Officer, will be at our assembly on Friday to introduce herself to you and give out attendance certificates.
Half Term Holiday
We finish for half term at 3.30pm on Friday 8th February. Have a good restful holiday and remember we come back to school on Monday 18th February.
