It is the legal duty of parents to ensure that their child attends school and arrives on
time. Children who are frequently late or absent have their educational progress
disrupted and may have difficulty making and keeping friendships. It is therefore
extremely important that your child attends school regularly. As adults we know a late
start can disrupt our routine for the rest of the day. Children can feel the same. They miss the
important beginning of the day, a time when many of the tasks are discussed and explained. We
have achieved the Government target of 95% overall attendance with 70% of children having
achieved a personal target above this.
Parents must contact school if their child is unable to attend for any reason and we require a letter of
absence on the child’s return to school. We have no children with unauthorised absence.
The Education Welfare Officer regularly checks the registers and will contact parents if he feels
there is a concern with a child’s attendance. Parents can be prosecuted for school attendance
offences. A copy of our attendance policy is available for parents.
It is important that the school be kept up to date with any changes in your child’s life, e.g. name of guardian, address, telephone number, the person to contact in case of illness, change in medication and any other important information.
