Seeds and Gardeners

How to Plant Seeds for an Easy Kids Gardening Activity

At the heart of our school community is our Seeds and Gardeners programme — a new initiative that helps foster friendship, responsibility, and care across year groups. Each year, our Year 6 pupils take on the important role of a Gardener to one of our new Reception children, affectionately known as their Seed.

At the beginning of the academic year, the Gardeners make a special promise to care for and support their Seed. They help them settle into school life, play with them in the playground, and act as a friendly face around the school. This relationship helps our youngest pupils feel safe, valued, and included right from the start of their journey with us.

Throughout the year, the Gardeners and Seeds spend time together during shared activities, assemblies, and prayer. Our Gardeners pray for their Seeds and encourage them as they learn and grow, offering guidance and companionship rooted in kindness and faith.

This bond between older and younger pupils is something truly special. The children learn from one another — the Seeds gain confidence and a sense of belonging, while the Gardeners develop empathy, leadership, and a strong sense of responsibility. Many of these friendships continue long after the Gardeners move on to secondary school, a testament to the lasting impact of this beautiful partnership.

The Seeds and Gardeners programme reflects the values at the core of our school: care, community, faith, and growth. Together, our pupils grow in friendship and love — nurturing one another as they journey through their time at school.
