✝️ Catholic Schools Inspectorate (CSI) – Section 48 Inspection

Under Section 48 of the Education Act 2005, the Bishop has the right to inspect any Catholic school or college in his Diocese to evaluate:

  • The quality of Religious Education

  • The Catholic character of the school

In the Diocese of Salford, inspections are carried out on a cyclical basis by trained inspectors, most of whom are current diocesan headteachers.

📘 Inspection Framework

The inspections follow the Catholic Schools Inspectorate (CSI) Framework for Review, Evaluation and Celebration of Catholic schools in England and Wales. This framework:

  • Describes the expected provision of Catholic education

  • Provides schools with a lens to review and reflect on their educational community

  • Supports schools in celebrating their heritage and tradition of excellence in Catholic education

Copies of the Framework are available in every Diocesan school and can be obtained from the Department for Education by contacting the school office.
