PE
Welcome to PE at St Josephs.
During our PE lessons, we ensure that everybody takes part in 2 PE sessions a week. We also promote active learning throughout the school day. This is done through movement within the classroom.
As a school, we are currently taking part of the WOW walk to school scheme – Living Street. Please click the picture below to find out more. Don't forget to WALK to school!
At St Josephs, we follow the PE Passport scheme. The PE Passport is child centred and allows pupils’ achievements in and out of school to be celebrated. Children will experience a range of skills to build towards exploring sports used around the world.
Have a look at our PE Curriculum overview to see what sports we are exploring and skills we are building.

Swimming
Children from Year 3 to 6 access swimming lessons through Todmorden Sports Centre. Both Elm Class and Oak Class have set blocks where they will get weekly swimming lessons.
Key requirements for primary school students in swimming:
-
Perform safe self-rescue:
Pupils must learn how to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
-
Swim at least 25 metres:
Pupils should be able to swim competently, confidently, and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
-
Use a range of strokes:
They should be taught to use a range of strokes effectively, such as front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke.
It is great for children to continue to practise these skills outside of school to develope continuos confidence.
Year 3 Mini Olympics Event
